TOUR MANAGER — AOTEAROA SURF FILM FESTIVAL

Location: Aotearoa-wide (Remote + Nationwide Travel)
Position Type: Fixed-Term Contract (Approx. 10–12 weeks, full-time)
Contract Date: Mid-February 2026 - End of April 2026 (Start and finish time can be flexible within this time)
Application Deadline: 20th October 2025

About ASFF:
Thirteen years strong, the Aotearoa Surf Film Festival (ASFF) is the country’s premier celebration of surf cinema, community, and culture. In 2025, we delivered our biggest tour yet — 26 sold-out screenings across Aotearoa, a record-breaking 5,636 attendees, and our most locally-produced lineup to date. From free outdoor cinema in Takapuna alongside 2000+ others to intimate cinema screenings in Kaikōura, Whangamatā and everywhere inbetween, ASFF connects people through powerful storytelling and a shared love of the ocean.

The Role: Tour Manager
We're looking for a highly organised, surf-savvy Tour Manager to help bring the 14th annual ASFF to life. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing the full delivery of our national film tour, working closely with the Event Director to execute a seamless, inspiring, and logistically sound festival season.
You’ll be in charge of delivering 20+ screenings over a 8–10 week period across nearly every region of Aotearoa, from indoor theatres to free outdoor events. This role is ideal for someone who thrives under pressure, loves the road, and is passionate about storytelling, surf culture, and community events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end tour delivery, including travel planning, logistics, equipment management, and on-the-ground event execution.

  • Serve as lead contact at venues: liaise with venue staff, projection teams, sponsors, and local stakeholders.

  • Manage all event setup/pack down, front-of-house operations, merchandise sales, and audience experience.

  • Coordinate volunteers or casual staff where required.

  • Work closely with the Event Director in pre-production, reporting, budgeting, and troubleshooting throughout the tour.

  • Represent ASFF with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a deep respect for surf culture and the communities we visit.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Experienced event manager (or similar) with at least 1+ year of live event or touring experience.

  • A genuine passion for surfing, environmental storytelling, and grassroots community engagement.

  • Confident public speaker. Happy to welcome and speak at events.

  • Someone who will take this job on a year-on-year basis.

  • Must be a permanent NZ resident.

  • Strong logistical and problem-solving skills — you’re cool-headed, practical, and detail-focused.

  • Confident working independently on the road for extended periods.

  • Clean driver’s licence and willingness to travel nationwide.

  • Comfortable lifting gear and managing tech/basic AV equipment (training provided if needed).

  • Bonus: familiarity with NZ surf communities, creative arts, or previous touring/festival experience.

What We Offer:

  • A flexible contract with travel, accommodation, and per diems covered.

  • The chance to help shape and deliver one of Aotearoa’s most unique and beloved touring events.

  • A collaborative and inspiring working environment with passionate creatives and ocean lovers.
